Repairs & Maintenance

We repair ANY and ALL exercise equipment (treadmills, ellipticals, weight machines, etc...), and specialize in cardio equipment repair. To schedule a service call just give us a call.

Preventative Maintenance Contracts

Everything breaks. That's the electromechanical law! And we can minimize it. Our service contracts are designed individually based on the customers specific needs. We offer professional in-house upholstery service with an average turn-around time of 48 hours from start to finish. We understand the importance of quick response time, and the negative impact a down machine can have on your facility’s image, and your bottom line.

In addition to several stock colors in our commercial vinyl inventory, we have quick access to hundreds of other vinyl patterns and colors and can guarantee an exact color match for any job.

Custom cable manufacturing

We can duplicate over 90 percent of weight machine cables with our in-house high speed cable press with same day turn-around.

Kevlar belting

We stock Kevlar belting for every type of weight machine.

Relocation and assembly services

Did you purchase a machine and need to have it assembled? Or do you need to relocate a machine? Give us a call. We will send a technician, not an installer. The difference is if there is a problem, we can fix it.


It’s sad but true: Sometimes your fitness equipment can run it’s course and needs to be removed. If you just need your equipment removed, let us provide that service for you. Depending on your circumstance you may qualify for a free removal.

Indoor Storage Services

We offer short term storage in our warehouse for your moving or remodeling needs. Storage fees vary depending on length of time and material being stored. Please contact us for a quote.

About Us

Gym Doctors was founded in 1991 by Daniel Daneshvar, a former auto mechanic and SFSU business management graduate who recognized the lack of quality service options for fitness equipment in the Bay Area.

Initially he focused on serving local gyms in the Bay Area, and as the business grew over time we expanded into the light commercial and residential markets and expanded the service territory to cover the greater Northern California.

By following the golden rule: “Treat others as you want to be treated”, we've grown to become the Bay Area’s largest independent service provider and authorized service center for over 40 top name manufacturers. In 2009, services were expanded to include sales and rentals of new and used fitness equipment.

By providing the best possible service at an honest price, our customers choose us time and again for their sales and service needs! We believe our friendly talented sales counselors and team of technicians are the best in the field and that's how we can provide timely quality service.

The last time we counted, our team had a combined total of 87 years of experience in the fitness industry and currently we average over 250 service calls a week.

Daniel is still very passionately involved in all aspects of company's daily operations and on occasion you might catch him out on a service call. When he's not obsessing over Gym Doctors, he's either working out, or playing with his kids or tinkering with his cars or fixing something.

We would give you the bio's of every team member but some say that's too personal or irrelevant. However, we can tell you "Yes, they have bigger than average brains and are the best at what they do!"

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:What makes Gym Doctors the best choice?
A: Our experienced staff of fourteen full-time factory trained service professionals sets us apart from our competitors. We can meet the requirements of any job, and unlike most of our competitors
our business and staff are truly manufacturer certified and Authorized.

Q: Do you provide free estimates?
A: Unfortunately no due to high labor costs. Buyer be aware - there is no such thing as "free estimate." If a "free estimate" is offered, they will have to make up for it elsewhere which translates to higher prices on parts or longer repair times. We believe in upfront honesty.

Q: What are your hours?
A: We're open Monday to Friday, 9 to 5 PM. For field service, the first appointment is set for 8 or 9 AM and last appointment is set for 4 PM. We generally provide you with a 2 hour window. Occasionally we work on Saturdays.

Q: How much does it cost to fix my machine?
A: There is no way to know without a proper diagnosis. Most issues can be resolved with a tune-up. If parts are required, a second trip may be needed because no one locally stocks all parts for every machine.

Q: How long does the repair take?
A: In residential cases we're ususally done within 45 minutes to an hour.

Q: What are your on-site rates?
$189 for the first hour (which covers the cost of travel and labor within the metropolitan area), and $100 per hour thereafter, billed in 15 minute increments.

Q: What if a return visit is required to complete a repair?
A: For residential clients we’ll waive the travel charge for the first hour and you’ll only be responsible for the $100 labor fee. (most jobs take less than an hour to complete).

For Commercial clients the cost is same on each visit, unless there is a maintenance plan in place.

Q: Is there a service appointment cancellation fee?
A: Yes, we do have a cancellation policy and require at least a 24 hour notice.  Otherwise we'll charge the full or partial amount of the visit fee depending on the circumstance.

Q: Do the travel fees change if I am located outside the immediate metropolitan San Francisco Bay Area or Sacramento?
A: If you are located within our service territory, but outside our primary metropolitan service areas, additional travel fees may be charged based on your location. 

Q: can I bring my machine to your shop?
A: Yes, absolutely. You can bring in your machine anytime during our business hours Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

Q: What is your shop rate?
A: Shop rate is a flat fee of $125 for most repairs (plus parts - if any).

Grocery Outlet - It’s a known fact that the CEO of Grocery Outlet, Mr. Read, gets what Mr. Read wants. So when he was faced with the challenge of getting this monster Cybex machine into his basement, he called on us.

Solution 2: We let loose our team member and Fabricator Extraordinaire, Al, to work his magic as follows:

1st, precisely chop it in half, and compensate for custom bracket thickness.

3rd, mig weld in place with better-than-factory quality welds.

4th, test fit together and paint.

Premier Nutrition in Emeryville, CA. After relocating from San Francisco to a larger facility in Emeryville, Premier Nutrition was ready for a new fitness center from ground up. We were handed the drawings and went to work. Several layouts later it was time for equipment selection. They wanted nice equipment so we outfited them with True's full commercial series treadmills and ellipticals all with touch screen monitors and Startrac's E-Spinners. The fitness center tunred out beautiful and functional. Gym Doctors designed the layout, sold, delivered and installed the equipment, and currently maintains the equipment. This was a great company to work with.

final 2, a Silicon Valley high tech startup, came to us seeking help on equipment selection on a tight budget for their new employee fitness room. After discussing their goals and needs, we chose the light commercial series from BH Fitness as the perfect fit for their fitness room. As a result, Kno management was very pleased that Gym Doctors was able to setup a fitness room with quality equipment that fit their budget. Gym Doctors designed the layout, sold, delivered and installed the equipment, and currently maintains the equipment.

Treadmill Service

DeAnza High School in Richmond, CA. - Gym Doctors was awarded the $150K contract for equipment upgrade of the fitness center. Inventory consisted of 24 pieces of cardio, and 25 pieces of strength equipment. Gym Doctors sold, delivered, and installed all the equipment and is currently responsible for on-going maintenance.
